Fundraisers
I'm confused by the fluctuating cost of the Missoula Skatepark!
Honestly....we feel that way sometimes too! Here's a complete breakdown and explanation. Because our project has taken some time to organize, pay for, and actually begin construction, the cost of almost everything has risen. Luckily, in that same period of time we've been given significantly more funding by the Missoula Redevelopment Association, and other donors. Here's where we stand:
| Missoula Skatepark Funding |
Amount |
| Missoula Redevelopment Agency (MRA) Funds |
325,000 |
| Vitalogy Foundation Donation (Pearl Jam) |
50,000 |
| AEV Jeep Raffle Revenue (before 4/6/06) |

The Missoula Skatepark is being built in 2 phases. Phase
1 (which broke ground on 3/3/06) was bid at $230,000
by Grindline Skateparks of Seattle, WA. This figure does not include
the $50,000 that was previously spent on the design phase, nor does
it include the $70,000 we paid for fill dirt transportation & compaction
in the summer of 2005. So, If you add all that up, "Phase 1" cost are listed here:
| Phase 1 Costs |
Amount |
| Grindline Phase 1 Construction |
230,000 |
| Dirt (Transportation & Compaction) |
70,000 |
| Grindline Design Fees |
50,000 |

| Total Costs to-date (3/24/06) |

So you've raised 500K and spent 350K....where's the rest of the money (150K) going and why do you need to raise more?
There's a ton of costs that are included in Phase 2 including landscaping, rock walls, irrigation, lighting, and the cost of the skateable surface. Here's our best guesses on what those things will cost (spring 2006):
| Phase 2 Costs |
Amount (approx.) |
| Grindline Phase 2 Construction |
200,000 |
| Landscaping, Irrigation, & Electrical |
100,000 |
| |
|

| Total Cost (Phase 2) |
300,000 |
| Additional Raised Funds |
-150,000 |

| Fundraising total (as of 3/24/06) |
$150,000 |
Now...throw in our 2-to-1 "SKATE TO THE FINISH" MATCHING DONATION (valid 4/6/06 - 6/21/06)
Our matching donor will match every $1 with $2, so we only really need to raise $50,000 to get $100,000 ($100,000 + $50,000 = $150,000 and we're done). Here's the final table and graphic that we'll keep updating as funding comes in:

Jeep Raffle
The Jeep Raffle raised nearly $90,000 towards the Missoula Skatepark project. Learn more about the Jeep Raffle >>
'On-Deck' Art Auction
We had a bunch of blank skate decks donated to us (thanks Justin at Generator) in the summer of 2005. We passed them out, people painted, glued, screwed and then returned them to us. We hung them up and then sold 'em. This was a great event and we raised over $7000 for the park in 2005. Art and skateboarding go hand-in-hand.
Big Sky Brewery Concert Series
The Missoula Skatepark Association was in charge of nearly all of the amenities for a series of 4 shows during the summer of 2005. When it was all said and done the MSA raised over $40,000 for the park. Not bad considering we got to see Widespread Panic, 50 Cent, Crosby, Stills, & Nash, & Willie Nelson for free.
Skate-Rocks
Here's an idea we snagged from the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA). Missoula Skatepark 'Skate Rocks' (our logo and basic info on some nicely printed cards) have been for sale at various local businesses around Missoula (namely Taco Del Sol). We're hoping people will write their names on these, hang them up and feel all fuzzy inside. TDS has helped us rake in over $2000 alone!
Missoula Skatepark Gear
Our gear is sold in the local Missoula skateshop, Edge of the World, on this website, and at each and every one of our fundraising events. We plan to expand on our current offerings of T-shirts, Stickers, & Skateboard Decks.
