Groundbreaking!
February 13, 2006
We saw the dirt start to move last summer, we got excited, we thought we'd be skating by fall...but 2005 was not our year. So we waited.....patiently. We watched the snow fall, we skated inside, and we rode snowboards. We silently refocused, crunched numbers and shuffled papers. This week (2/13/06) we enter into a contract with Grindline Skateparks to begin construction on Phase 1 of the Missoula Skatepark. That's right....everything will be underway in a few weeks and we'll be skating by June.
The Missoula Skatepark Association has so many people to thank that have made all of this possible. This is something that we've worked on for 6 years and we cannot believe it is finally happening. Stay tuned to missoulaskatepark.org for lots of updates in coming weeks...including an official planned 'groundbreaking' event.
Special thanks also go out to Dreamland Skateparks, the other qualified bidder on the Missoula Skatepark project. Danyel and the crew in Lincoln City, OR have been fantastic to us throughout the bidding process and we love the work they do. Please also note that Dreamland will also be in Montana all summer. They begin construction on Butte's park this March and move on to Polson immediately afterwards. If you are a skater living in Montana you can safely say that you are now 'in the right place at the right time'.
Still need to raise some $$
We're all very excited about the Phase 1 news. We WILL be skating this summer. However, if we raise an additional $150,000 in the next 3 months...we can just keep Grindline here to finish up Phase 2 while they are at it. We'd really like for this to happen.
